A calm set is not luck. It is the residue of a hundred small decisions made before the truck arrived. When we storyboard, we are not drawing pretty pictures, we are editing the film before we have shot it.
Every shot on the list has to earn its place by answering one question: what does the edit need here? If we cannot answer, we do not shoot it. That discipline is what lets us move fast on the day and still come home with a cut.
It also protects the happy accident. When the plan is solid, you have the room to chase the better idea when it shows up, because you are not scrambling to cover the basics.
