The Maker
A quiet portrait of a couture house, where the camera follows hands and thread rather than the runway.
The brief
Maison Devi did not want a fashion film. They wanted a record of how a garment is actually made. We embedded a small crew in the atelier for two weeks and shot it like a documentary, observing more than directing.
By working with available light and long lenses we stayed out of the makers' way and let real moments happen. The grade is soft and filmic, closer to a memory than a catalogue.
The sound mix is built from the room, scissors, the press of an iron, a sewing machine, so the craft is something you hear as much as see.
