Home, Baby & Pet
The quieter rooms of a house deserve the same discernment as the cheese counter. Since 1962 we have kept them: linen water scented with Thanjavur vetiver, Ponduru muslins softened on the river stone, stone-milled ragi for first breakfasts, and biscuits baked each morning for the dogs of Colaba. Everything here is chosen the way one chooses for family — carefully, and only once.

On Ponduru Muslin
Our swaddles are spun on single-spindle charkhas in Srikakulam, a cloth so fine the East India Company once taxed it separately. Each set is laundered in soapnut before it reaches the shelf, so it arrives nursery-soft rather than shop-stiff.
Coconut Oil, Set Firm
Below twenty-four degrees the Thrissur pressing turns snow-white and solid — the signature of an unrefined oil, not a fault. Stand the jar in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes before the evening massage.
The After-Walk Ritual
The goat-milk biscuits were composed for the hour after the evening walk, when the dogs of Cuffe Parade have earned something. For cats, a teaspoon of mussel topper folded through plain food twice a week is quite enough.
